RacingPost Forecast

Selecting runners by how far their Betfair price sits from the Racing Post forecast price: the settings, three worked set-ups, and how the difference is calculated.

The RacingPost Forecast selection compares each runner's Betfair price with its price in the Racing Post betting forecast, and selects the runner if the gap between the two falls inside a range you set. Its settings are on the Extra Features page.

Settings

  1. Min difference, Max difference: the range the gap between Betfair price and forecast price must fall in.
  2. Difference in %: ticked, the range is in percent; unticked, it's in price points.
  3. Difference must be: Positive means the Betfair price must be above the forecast (bigger than the forecast by between your min and max); Negative means it must be below; Any accepts either.
  4. How to select runners: what to do when more than one runner qualifies. All runners in the range selects all of them. Lowest ABS difference and Highest ABS difference take the runner whose gap, ignoring the sign, is smallest or largest. Lowest price and Highest price take the shortest or longest Betfair price among those that qualify.
  5. Number of runners to select: how many to take under the rule in point 4. Set to 3 with Lowest ABS difference, the bot takes the three closest. Ignored when All runners in the range is chosen. 0 still selects one runner. If fewer runners qualify than the number asked for, only those that qualify are selected.

Three set-ups

The runner whose Betfair price is furthest above its forecast. Min difference 0, Max difference 1000, Difference in % unticked, Difference must be Positive, How to select Highest ABS difference.

Any runner trading 30% to 130% below its forecast. Min difference 30, Max difference 130, Difference in % ticked, Difference must be Negative, How to select All runners in the range.

The runner with the biggest gap either way, provided it's at least 50%. Min difference 50, Max difference 99999, Difference in % ticked, Difference must be Any, How to select Highest ABS difference.

How the difference is worked out

Say a runner is 2.30 on Betfair and 7/4 in the forecast. The forecast is converted to decimal first: 7/4 + 1 = 2.75. The absolute difference is Betfair price minus forecast price: 2.30 − 2.75 = −0.45. As a percentage it's that difference divided by the forecast: −0.45 / 2.75 = −16.4%. A negative number means the Betfair price is below the forecast.
