Selections

The rules the bot can use to decide which runner to bet: favourites by odds, named runners, runners by position, price ranges, and the advanced options.

A selection is the rule that picks the runner. You choose selections for many races at once on the Load races form, or for one race in the Edit race form. The same rules apply either way.

Standard selections

  1. 1st to 6th Fav: the favourite, second favourite and so on, ranked by odds. Which odds depends on your Prices to use setting: with live Betfair odds it's the back price for back bets and the lay price for lay bets; with BSP it's the projected starting price; with on-course odds it's the Sporting Life price. See System settings.
  2. Named runners: particular horses or dogs, listed by name and number. Only available in the Edit race form, since it's specific to one race.
  3. 1st to 6th Selection: the runner listed in that position in the Betfair market, regardless of price. Only on the Load races form, for many races at once. Mostly used for greyhounds, where 1st Selection is Trap 1, 2nd Selection is Trap 2 and so on.
  4. Price Range: one or more runners whose odds fall between the Min odds and Max odds you enter. Whether the bot takes all of them, only the shortest or only the longest is set by Price range selection method on the Settings page.

Advanced selections

These have their own settings on the Extra Features page.

  1. RacingPost Forecast: picks runners from the Racing Post betting forecast, for example the forecast favourite rather than the market favourite. See RacingPost Forecast.
  2. Winning Trap: for greyhounds. Picks a trap based on which trap won the previous race, for example the same trap again, or that trap plus one. See Winning Trap.

Selections that come from somewhere else

Two other routes put selections into a system without any of the rules above. A tipster or included system you follow delivers its selections straight into the Races page when auto download is on; see Tipsters. And a CSV of your own picks goes in through Import races. In both cases the runners are named, and the odds limits, conditions and staking plan on the system still apply to them.

If your strategy needs a selection rule that isn't here, tell us what it is through the contact form. Some things can be built from the existing rules and conditions; we'll say if it can't.
